What makes Magpie special is their warm, captivating performance and
the rapport they establish with their audience whether playing to sixty
people in a folk club or a vast, Festival main stage crowd.
Terry and Gregs interests in various musical styles have led them
to be eclectic in their repertoire. Rather than confine themselves to
a single style, Magpie has always embraced a musical rainbow, and with
impressive proficiency in each different genre. From classic country,
swing, and blues of the nineteen twenties and thirties, to contemporary
songs written by themselves and others, Terry and Greg cover a lot of
musical ground. With the power of their delivery, Magpie is well known
for lending their voices to struggles for justice, the quest for peace,
and healing the earth. Their performances of hard-hitting topical songs
are second to none.
In 1998 they won a Washington Area Music Award (a WAMMIE) in the traditional
music category - no small achievement and a great way to celebrate 25
years as a duo. They also had the honour of being asked to appear on
the recently issued double album in honour of Pete Seeger.
'Terrific entertainment' - Tom Paxton.
'And what a great bunch of songs!' - Pete Seeger
'Magpie performs songs of and for the Earth. The absolute perfection
and clarity of their arrangements and harmonies is masterful and stunningly
emotional. They are among the finest songwriters and performers of our
era.' - Baltimore Folk Music Society
